Base upfront incentive

$400 per kW committed

One-time payment after contract execution, subject to equipment and program approval. A separate LMI adder requires prior eligibility confirmation.

Monthly export credit

Tariff- and billing-specific

Not available to NEM or NEM Plus participants under the published BYOD Plus terms; do not apply a generic annual forecast.

These are published program terms, not a guaranteed payment. Actual earnings depend on measured performance, event counts, and what your aggregator passes through.

How the program works

BYOD Plus replaced Battery Bonus for new participation. Hawaiian Electric describes a daily customer-selected two-hour battery window, with the home served first and excess energy available for the program. New batteries and advanced metering are required under the current offer.

The published upfront incentive is $400 per committed kW, with a separate qualifying low- and moderate-income adder. Monthly export credits depend on the underlying tariff; NEM and NEM Plus customers do not receive the BYOD Plus monthly export credit. Check the executed agreement for commitment and repayment terms: different sections of the utility page describe different durations.

Who qualifies

  • A qualifying Hawaiian Electric account, new approved battery paired with renewable generation, and an advanced meter.
  • At least 1 kW of committed capacity and the required daily two-hour window.
  • Approved interconnection and tariff compatibility; Battery Bonus customers cannot simply transfer an existing battery into this offer.

How to enroll

Use Hawaiian Electric’s Customer Interconnection Tool with your contractor. Confirm the approved time slot, underlying tariff, ownership, incentive recipient and signed commitment duration before relying on compensation.

Questions buyers ask

Can an existing Battery Bonus battery transfer to BYOD Plus?

Hawaiian Electric states that new batteries are required and Battery Bonus participants cannot transition their existing participation into BYOD Plus.

Does every participant receive monthly export credits?

No. The published terms exclude NEM and NEM Plus customers from the BYOD Plus monthly export credit. Other credits depend on the tariff and billing rate.

What dispatch commitment should I check?

The utility describes a daily two-hour window. Confirm the participation duration and early-termination repayment requirement in your signed agreement, because the public page contains differing duration statements.
